Kia ora, I’m Tommy.

I’m passionate about helping people to live life to the full. As a counsellor, FIT (Functional Imagery Training) coach and mental health speaker, I work with individuals and groups to achieve their goals and overcome mental hurdles.

We live in a busy, distracted culture. It’s often hard to feel seen and heard — even by our loved ones. As a counsellor, I’m trained to listen to your story with empathy, identify blind spots, and help you to make meaningful changes.

Counselling is for everyone — whether you’re stressed or overwhelmed by current challenges, or you want to address some things that have been hanging over you for many years.

I practise person-centred counselling, which is about making you feel safe and supported, and allowing you to set the pace and focus of our sessions. Depending on your needs, I can work with you on a short-term or long-term basis.

The benefits of counselling can include a greater sense of purpose, connecting with your values, having healthier relationships, finding meaning in difficult experiences, and having better overall wellbeing.

How can I help?

I work with people from all ages, cultures and backgrounds. I have experience in supporting people through:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Stress and burnout
  • Relationship issues
  • Unwanted sexual behaviours
  • Grief and loss
  • Past trauma
  • Addiction
  • Loneliness

I’m trained in a range of psychological modalities, such as CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy.

I have a particular focus on IFS (Internal Family Systems) and ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), which is about living a values-based life.

I offer one-hour sessions, in person or via Zoom. In person sessions are held at my practice on Brandon St in Wellington.

In person sessions are available on Tuesdays (daytime) and Wednesdays (afternoon only). If these slots do not suit you, let me know. Online sessions can be arranged by appointment.

Sessions cost $150. If cost is a barrier for you, I have access to some limited funding streams that may be of assistance.
